Our process is designed around the student
Our services
The college process is an opportunity for exploration, skill development, and self-awareness – and even some fun. Yes, there is real work to do, but Meg breaks it down into manageable chunks to ensure each student has a timetable that works for them. Ultimately, the goal is multi-faceted: for each student to present an application that best reflects their strengths and interests, and to provide families the requisite information for making a smart college choice.
Meg works with students to learn more about their learning style, academic history and interests, goals for the future, and what they are looking for in their college experience. With this feedback Meg prepares a balanced college list and makes recommendations for in-person visits. Meg supports students through the completion of their applications, assisting with essay development and feedback based on our school-specific knowledge. Meg discusses application strategy - early vs. regular admissions - with students and families and when acceptances arrive, celebrates with students and helps families understand and compare offers. The entire process is designed around the student, advance planning to minimize stress, and current admissions trends.
Depending upon where a student is in the college process, we will address the following during our time together:
Extensive research to compile a balanced list of schools
Development of a standardized testing plan, including suggestions for test preparation
Brainstorming for summer activity and job opportunities
Course selection
Financial aid education
Essay coaching and comments
Interview preparation
Planning for letters of recommendation
Assistance with résumé preparation
Application checklists and detailed review
Evaluation of financial aid and scholarship offers
Advice on next steps with deferrals and waitlists

A Word About Essays
Essays are an integral part of every college application and they're an opportunity to highlight essential facets of the student's experience and character. Writing and polishing application essays is usually a student's first foray into an extensive, multi-step editing process. Meg begins the brainstorming and review process early to allow the essay to grow into a product the student is proud of and which memorably tells their unique story in their own voice. Meg also works with students on the supplemental essays which accompany many college applications. Supplements give students another chance to demonstrate WHY they belong on campus and to shed more light on what sets them apart.
